About Customer

Our customer who was a startup was founded in 2018 with the goal of bringing grid-edge data intelligence to the energy supply market through the introduction of digital circuit breaker technology. Mechanical circuit breakers have been the gatekeepers of household electricity supply for around 150 years, but customer’s digital alternative will be a game-changer for the future of electricity management. Customer’s solid-state circuit breaker is a response to emerging trends in global energy markets and aims to satisfy the growing demand for “grid-edge intelligence” from both consumers and power network infrastructure. Unlike conventional mechanical breakers, the new Breaker can collect real-time data and remotely control all loads – all via one small connected device offered to customers in a new smart Panel with built-in voltage conversion and Home Energy Management System.

Requirement

They want to build a Home Energy Management (HEM) system that provides real-time insights, and real-time control of the Energy flow in a home. Insights can range from simple consumption and production measurement up to full fledged energy disaggregation and predictive maintenance solutions. Realtime control can also exist in various levels – from the simple notification to the user, who then can respond remotely to the event, up to a fully automated system that monitors energy consumption, storage, production and grid prices and tries to balance these parameters based on the home owners set preferences. In order for a HEM system to be useful, it has to provide as many integrations as possible to existing systems (for example PV systems, smart home devices, energy meters etc.), be easy to extend, respect the user’s privacy, have security build in as its first paradigm (electrical as well as cyber security), allow for a high degree of automation, while also be user friendly and accessible to technical untrained users, and require only a minimum amount of resources to run.

  • The HEM system is based on the home-assistant open source project (https://www.home-assistant.io/ ).
  • It is a non-proprietary solution offering easy integration with existing smart home appliances and appliances and automation for example PV systems, smart home devices, energy meters etc.
  • Engine and mobile apps for remote access and a browser interface for local access.
  • Respect the user’s privacy, have security built in as its first paradigm (electrical as well as cyber security), allow for a high degree of automation, while also be user friendly and accessible to technical untrained users, and require only a minimum amount of resources to run.
